Why I Wrote “America’s Backbone” ~ I wrote “America’s Backbone” because too many of the real heroes in this country are being overlooked. While billionaires dodge taxes and politicians chase headlines, it’s the everyday Americans—the ones with calloused hands, aching backs, and hearts full of grit—who are holding this nation together. This song is for them.
It’s for the men and women in hard hats swinging hammers through rain and heat, laying the roads we drive on and wiring the buildings we live in. It’s for the truckers hauling across midnight highways so shelves stay stocked and families stay fed. It’s for the veterans who stood on battlefields and now stand tall in our communities, often without the support they were promised.
“America’s Backbone” honors the nurses, EMTs, and caregivers who worked double shifts during the darkest days of the pandemic. It honors the snowplow drivers clearing roads at 3 a.m., the factory workers keeping the gears of industry turning, the farmers feeding us from sunrise to sundown, and the grocery clerks and sanitation crews who showed up every day when the world seemed to shut down.
It’s also for the ones who raised their voices when rights were under attack—union organizers, civil rights workers, and community leaders who never stopped pushing for a more just and fair America.
Every verse in this song is a question, because too often we don’t ask. We don’t ask who built that bridge, who worked through the night to restore the power, who stood in line with a lunchbox and a dream. The chorus answers it loud and proud: they’re America’s backbone. Not the CEOs, not the lobbyists—but the workers. The veterans. The essential. The invisible giants.
I wrote this as a tribute, but also as a reminder: this country doesn’t stand on gold-plated towers. It stands on steel-toed boots, stitched-up scrubs, and quiet acts of courage performed every single day.
So next time you see one of these heroes, give ‘em more than a nod. Give them your respect. Your solidarity. Because without them, there is no America. ~
After finishing my recent post titled "Unmarked Vans. Secret Lists. Welcome to Trump's Police State”—and reading it over for the fifth time checking for every last typo—I realized something: this post wasn’t just a warning, it was a song waiting to happen. The words had rhythm, the urgency had a beat, and the message demanded a melody. So I picked up my pen, and with the Blue Wave Revival band by my side, we turned that fire into music. We laid it down last night, gave it our heart and soul, and now it’s ready for you. If you’ve read the post, you’ve heard the message—now feel it in the song.
I've Been Working on This One for a While… And It’s Different.
I’ve been sitting with this song for about a month—wrestling with the lyrics, shaping the melody, letting it haunt me a little. And last night, we finally recorded it.
I have to tell you: this one’s different. Some of you might even say it’s dark. That’s not my usual lane, but sometimes, the moment calls for a deeper, more raw emotional current. And that’s exactly what came through.
There’s still some mastering work to be done on the music, but I didn’t want to wait any longer. I’m sending you a pre-recording version of the song because I trust your ears—and your heart. I’d love for you to give it a listen and tell me, honestly, how it hits you.
Headphones are recommended. This one is layered and intimate, and I want you to hear it the way it was meant to be heard.
Below, you’ll find a little background on what inspired the song. Once you’ve read that, click the link and let the music speak for itself. Thanks for being part of this journey with me.
“Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” Turns 250—And Under Trump, We Get Neither. Two hundred and fifty years ago, Patrick Henry stood before the Virginia Convention and declared words that would help ignite a revolution: “Give me liberty, or give me death.” It was bold. It was raw. And it meant something. It was a call to throw off tyranny, to rise up against a king who taxed without representation, silenced dissent, and treated freedom like a privilege—not a right.
Now, 250 years later, what are we getting under Trump and his authoritarian circus? A man who praises dictators, bullies the press, uses the DOJ like a personal hit squad, and treats democracy like it’s some annoying obstacle to his ego. What Patrick Henry fought against, Donald Trump is trying to become.
INTRODUCTION TO "A New Generation Rises"
I wrote “A New Generation Rises” because I believe we're standing at a turning point—not just for the Democratic Party, but for the soul of this country. For too long, we've been fighting the same battles with the same voices. And while I honor the work and sacrifice of the generations before us, it’s time to pass the torch.
This song is a call to action. It’s a message to the rising stars, the young organizers, the bold new leaders who aren't afraid to challenge the status quo. It’s a rallying cry for those who feel the urgency of this moment and understand that the future can’t wait.
Every verse in this song is built on hope—and on the firm belief that leadership isn’t about age but about vision, courage, and the will to move us forward. Our world is changing fast, and we need leaders who are ready to meet that change head-on—with clarity, compassion, and strength.
A New Generation Rises is more than a song. It’s a statement. It's a passing of the mic. And it’s my way of saying: the future is knocking—and it’s time we opened the door. ~
Step Right Up for the Greatest Show on Earth!
The last few tunes we put out may have pulled at some heartstrings, but this time, I promise—no tissues needed! With "The MAGA Circus Show," we’re turning up the energy, cranking up the fun, and giving you a front-row seat to the wildest political spectacle in America.
This song is all about the absurdity, the drama, and the downright comedy of the MAGA movement, set to a funky, upbeat groove that’ll have you tapping your feet and shaking your head at the same time. So sit back, crank it up, and enjoy the show! I guarantee that if you’ve got any tears this time, they’ll be from laughing too hard. - Let the circus begin!
Mom Taught Me Not to Hate, But Trump Is Making It Damn Hard ~
I was raised to believe that “hate” is a powerful word, not to be thrown around carelessly. My mom made sure of that. If I didn’t like someone, she taught me to find another way to describe it—frustrated, disappointed, even disgusted. But never hate. Hate, she believed, was corrosive. It eats away at you, drags you down to the level of the very thing you despise.
But damn if Donald Trump isn’t testing me.
Every day, he gives me another reason to want to throw my mother’s lesson out the window. The lies, the cruelty, the endless corruption, the shameless grift, the way he plays people against each other like it’s all just a reality show—how do you not hate that? How do you not hate a man who delights in making others suffer, who disrespects veterans, who coddles dictators, who turns Americans against one another for his own gain?
That’s why I wrote "Mom Taught Me Not to Hate But Trump Is Testing Me". This song is my confession, my catharsis, my way of wrestling with what so many of us feel but don’t always say out loud. It’s for everyone who’s been struggling to hold on to their humanity in the face of Trump’s cruelty. Everyone who’s sick of watching him trample over decency, mock the vulnerable, and get away with it—over and over again.
I still hear my mom’s voice in my head, telling me to be better than that. And I’m trying. I really am. But if I ever give in, if one day the words finally slip out, I hope she’ll understand. I hope she’ll forgive me. Because some people don’t just test your patience—they test your soul. Donald Trump is one of them.
This song is for those of us who refuse to let hate consume us but also refuse to stay silent. Because calling out evil for what it is isn’t hate—it’s justice. And if my mom were here today, maybe she’d see that, too.
A Song for Ukraine’s Unbreakable Spirit
About a week ago, I watched a video on CNN that shook me to my core. It wasn’t just another report on the war in Ukraine—it was a window into the resilience, sacrifice, and sheer unbreakable will of a people fighting for their home. As a 100% Army-disabled veteran, I felt something deep stir inside me. I couldn’t just watch and move on. I had to put my emotions into words.
After writing about it for my blog, I realized words alone weren’t enough. The weight of their struggle, the depth of their courage—it needed something more. So, I picked up my guitar, sat at my piano, and poured everything I was feeling into a song.
"A Song for Ukraine’s Unbreakable Spirit" is my tribute to the soldiers who have given everything, to the families enduring unimaginable loss, and to the millions of Ukrainians who refuse to back down in the face of tyranny. It’s about the quiet moments of defiance, the silent prayers, the tears shed for those who will never come home. It’s about the cost of freedom and the spirit of a people who will never be broken.
This song is my way of saying: We see you. We hear you. We stand with you.
Listen to the music. Feel the message. And let’s never forget that Ukraine’s fight is a fight for all of us.
Slava Ukraini!
—Rick Gaspa
I Won’t Let It Go (Trump’s Reckoning)
This song is different from the anthems I usually write. It’s a storytelling piece—steady in rhythm, built on light acoustic instrumentation, and layered with growing intensity. The guitar, piano, and subtle percussion serve as a foundation for something deeper: a message that refuses to be ignored.
"I Won’t Let It Go (Trump’s Reckoning)” is a declaration of resilience, a refusal to let the truth be buried, and a testament to the progressive fight for justice. I wrote this song to capture the passion I feel for the movement, for holding those in power accountable, and for ensuring that history remembers not just what happened but who stood up to say, Enough.
I hope you hear the conviction in my voice, the urgency in the lyrics, and the fire that fuels this music. Because I won’t let it go—and I know you won’t either. - Rick Gaspa and the Blue Wave Revival Band
It’s a Wrap! “Jasmine’s Fire” Is Ready to Burn Bright
After hours of redo’s, tweaks, and fine-tuning, we finally put Jasmine’s Fire to bed! It won’t be officially released until Monday, but I wanted to give our group an exclusive pre-release listen. You all have been such a huge part of this journey, and I can’t wait to hear what you think.
For those who may not know, Jasmine’s Fire is inspired by Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett, a powerhouse voice in the fight for justice, democracy, and truth. She’s the kind of leader who doesn’t back down, who speaks with passion and fire, and who refuses to let corruption go unchecked. Whether she’s calling out Republican hypocrisy in Congress or standing up for the people who sent her there, she brings the kind of energy we need more of in politics.
This song is about that fire—the kind that ignites change, that refuses to be dimmed, that keeps pushing forward no matter what. I hope you feel that energy when you listen. Let me know what you think, and thank you, as always, for being on this journey with me! -

I highly recommend experiencing our music through headphones, external speakers, or your home stereo system to truly immerse yourself in its full effect. Every word, note, and sound is carefully crafted and meticulously placed to draw you into the heart of the song, making you feel like an essential part of the music.
Introducing "History's Echo"
I am thrilled to share with you my new composition, "History's Echo". This song is a deeply personal creation born out of reflection and concern for our times. When I first composed the melody and lyrics, I was struck by haunting parallels between today’s political climate—especially some of the divisive rhetoric we’ve seen from figures like Donald Trump—and the dark rise of extremist ideologies in pre–World War II Germany. These comparisons, though controversial, inspired me to create a work that challenges us to remember the lessons of history.
A Sonic Journey into the Past
"History's Echo" opens with a haunting instrumental intro that sets the stage for what’s to come. Picture the sound of a distant, eerie violin weaving through low, rumbling drums, accompanied by a ghostly choir softly humming as if echoing voices from another era. Over this atmospheric soundscape, faint radio static crackles while snippets of old speeches fade in and out—whispers of history cautioning us against repeating its mistakes. As the sound swells, tension builds, only to give way to a chilling silence before the first words are sung.
This unconventional musical approach was very intentional. I wanted the music behind the lyrics to evoke emotions and images that challenge our perceptions, inviting you to not only listen but to feel the weight of the historical echoes in every note.
The Message Behind the Music
History's Echo: Parallels Between Today and the Rise of the Nazi Regime
Recent years have prompted me to reflect on how history can sometimes seem to repeat itself. While the situations of the early 1930s in Germany and today are not identical, there are disturbing similarities that remind us to stay vigilant. In "History's Echo," I delve into these parallels:
Economic Uncertainty and Political Opportunism
In the aftermath of World War I, Germany faced massive unemployment, hyperinflation, and national humiliation, creating fertile ground for extremist ideologies. Today, although our economic challenges manifest differently, globalization, rapid technological change, and periodic financial crises continue to fuel a sense of instability. In both eras, desperate times have often paved the way for political opportunists offering simplistic answers to complex problems.
The Resurgence of Nationalism and Populism
The nationalist fervor that helped propel extremist movements in the 1930s is resurfacing in modern political discourse. Just as feelings of betrayal and loss fueled a desire for a return to a perceived glorious past in Germany, similar themes are emerging today. While not all expressions of nationalism are dangerous, the echoes of exclusionary rhetoric serve as a stark warning.
Scapegoating and the Demonization of the "Other"
A hallmark of Nazi propaganda was the systematic scapegoating of minorities to divert attention from deep-seated issues. In our contemporary political climate, we sometimes witness the demonization of specific groups—a tactic that deepens divisions and distracts us from real, systemic problems.
The Power of Propaganda and Media Manipulation
In the 1930s, the Nazi regime mastered propaganda to reshape public opinion and consolidate power. Today, our digital landscape—with its 24-hour news cycle and the rapid spread of both information and misinformation—mirrors these historical tactics. This modern-day manipulation, whether deliberate or inadvertent, can weaken democratic discourse and undermine trust in our institutions.
Trump's Directives: Echoes of Nationalist Rhetoric?
While it is important to acknowledge the distinct historical contexts, some aspects of Donald Trump's directives have drawn comparisons with past exclusionary policies. From strict immigration measures and an "America First" agenda to the demonization of media and political opponents, these modern policies echo the nationalist fervor and divisive tactics that once paved the way for authoritarian movements.
Erosion of Democratic Institutions
Perhaps the most sobering parallel is the gradual erosion of democratic institutions. Just as the weakening of checks and balances in Weimar Germany allowed an authoritarian regime to emerge, we now see challenges to the free press and judicial independence in various parts of the world. The message is clear: protecting our democratic foundations is essential for safeguarding our future.
A Call to Listen and Reflect
I invite you to listen to the entire song, digest every word, and truly engage with the message woven into its fabric. "History's Echo" is not just a song—it’s a call to action to remain vigilant, to critically examine our present, and to learn from the past. The Blue Wave Revival Band and I poured our hearts into recording this track, and we hope that its haunting melodies and thought-provoking lyrics resonate with you as deeply as they do with us. Thank you for joining us on this journey through sound and history. With passion and purpose.
For those who know me, beyond being a blogger and writer for national progressive publications, I’m also a songwriter, composer, and performer. Music has always been my way of amplifying the message of the movement, and through the Blue Wave Revival Band, we bring that passion to life at rallies, protests, and progressive gatherings.
This week, I wrote and composed a brand-new song called “AOC: She Won’t Back Down.” It’s inspired by a leader I deeply admire—Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
AOC embodies the kind of fearless, unapologetic leadership that Democrats need more of. She speaks truth to power, challenges the status quo, and refuses to be intimidated by corporate interests or right-wing attacks. Whether she’s grilling Wall Street executives in congressional hearings, advocating for working-class Americans, or calling out hypocrisy with razor-sharp wit, she fights with both passion and intelligence. She represents a new generation of progressive leadership—one that isn’t afraid to push for bold, necessary change. That’s exactly why I admire her, and that’s why I wrote this song.
On Thursday night, I put the lyrics to music and brought it to life with the band. Now, I invite all of you—fellow progressives, AOC admirers, and lovers of movement music—to take a listen. “AOC: She Won’t Back Down” is our tribute to her strength, and I’d love to hear what you think.
Drop your feedback in the comments or send me a message—I read every single one. Let’s keep the momentum going, and let’s keep lifting up voices like AOC’s.
Stay loud. Stay proud. And as always—Blue Wave rising. 🌊🎶
After a long wait, the time has finally come. PEOPLE STAND READY is finally coming to life with music, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you. I wrote this song a while back, but it took me longer than usual to find the perfect beat and vocal pitch that truly captured the weight of the words. This song demanded the right sound—the kind of music that hits you deep, the kind that makes you feel every single lyric. And now, the band and I are finally belting it out the way it was meant to be heard.
So, what’s PEOPLE STAND READY" about?
This song is a call to action—a reminder that we don’t just stand by while the values of freedom, justice, and democracy are under attack. It’s about the generations who came before us, those who fought for something bigger than themselves. My father’s voice echoes in these lyrics, just like the voices of so many who gave their blood, sweat, and soul to keep this country whole. And now, it’s our turn to pick up that fight.
We’ve seen the cracks forming, the creeping shadow of fascism dressed in false patriotism. We see the lies, the manipulation, the attempt to erase progress. But as the chorus says—not on our watch.
This isn’t just a song. It’s a vow.
As always, my progressive music is best heard the right way—with headphones on or blasting through your home stereo. Feel the depth. Let the harmonies surround you. And when you do, let me know what you think. Your feedback is always appreciated because this music isn’t just for me—it’s for all of us.

In a time of uncertainty, where the stakes couldn’t be higher, Guardians and Saboteurs captures the battle for democracy and the urgent choice we face. This song isn’t just music—it’s a rallying cry for everyone standing at the crossroads of hope and chaos.
From the opening lines—"We stand at the edge of change, where shadows creep, and hearts rearrange"—to the haunting chorus warning of democracy’s fragile state, this anthem speaks to the heart of our nation’s struggle. It reflects on President Biden’s steady leadership, juxtaposed against the dangerous specter of Trump’s return, and calls on listeners to protect what’s precious.
We created this song as a dialogue between hope and fear, progress and regression. It’s a message for everyone who’s felt the weight of these times and still believes in the power of unity and action. The chorus builds into a powerful anthem:
"Jarring, dangerous, and scary too,
Handing power to the one who knew,
How to tear it down, how to break the core,
Democracy knocking on Trump’s reckless door."
The blend of storytelling, harmonies, and urgent rhythm reflects our commitment to creating music that not only resonates but inspires. Whether it’s the triumphant bridge—“Protect what’s precious, hold it tight”—or the reflective outro warning of the cost of complacency, Guardians and Saboteurs is a song meant to stay with you long after it ends.
This isn’t just a song; it’s a stand for decency, accountability, and hope. It’s for everyone who’s ever felt the tension of these times and found the courage to keep fighting.
Stream Guardians and Saboteurs today. Share it with your friends, your family, and anyone who needs a reminder that democracy isn’t just a word—it’s a legacy we must defend. Let’s hold the line together.
Trump's Inauguration: From Disappointment to Inspiration
I promised myself—and all of you—that I wouldn’t watch Donald Trump’s inauguration today. I wasn’t ready to lend an ear to what I expected to be another performance of divisive rhetoric. But as the clock struck noon, curiosity got the better of me. Against my better judgment, I tuned in, hoping that maybe, just maybe, Trump would surprise us and speak to the nation with unity, humility, and hope.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
Trump’s speech wasn’t just disappointing; it was a full-blown assault on everything I hoped a president’s words could be. Instead of extending a hand to all Americans, he doubled down on hatred, self-promotion, and fear-mongering. It was a speech so devoid of grace and inclusivity that it left me physically sick to my stomach.
As much as I wanted to channel my feelings into this blog post, I realized that words alone weren’t enough to convey the depth of my reaction. So, I turned to the only medium that could truly capture what I felt: music.
Today, I’m sharing a song that was born from the frustration, disappointment, and hope that Trump’s speech stirred in me. It’s a piece of my soul—a response to his divisive rhetoric and a call for the unity we so desperately need. I poured everything into it, and I hope it resonates with you as deeply as it came from within me.
Your feedback means the world to me, so I’d love to hear your thoughts. And remember: the music we create is always free to download and share. Let’s spread a message of hope and resilience together.
– Richard Gaspa and the Blue Wave Revival Band
Dear Family and Friends of the Blue Wave Revival Band,
As January 20th approaches, a date that will mark the return of Donald Trump and his authoritarian grip on our government, many of us are feeling the weight of what lies ahead. These next four years will test us as a nation, as we face policies that aim to marginalize and divide us.
In the midst of these heavy thoughts, I turned to music to process my feelings. Over the past few weeks, I’ve poured my heart into writing a song that captures the unease and resolve I feel inside. I believe these lyrics will resonate with many of you, as they come from a place of shared struggle and hope.
Listen to the lyrics to Day One—a song that reflects on the challenges we’re bracing for and the strength we’ll need to push forward.
Your feedback and comments are, as always, deeply appreciated. Let me know your thoughts, and thank you for standing together as we face the road ahead.
With solidarity, - Rick Gaspa and the Blue Wave Revival Band
Let’s Talk About 2025 As the clock strikes midnight and we step into 2025, we must confront an uncomfortable reality: Donald Trump will soon take the oath of office again. For many of us, this feels like a gut punch to the progress we’ve fought so hard to achieve. But this moment is not the end of the story—it’s a call to action. 2025 will test our resolve as progressive Democrats. We can expect the rollback of key policies protecting marginalized communities, workers' rights, and the environment. Trump and his MAGA Congress will undoubtedly try to further entrench their power by attacking our democratic institutions. Their agenda will be one of division, fear, and regression. But let’s be clear: we are not powerless.
The year ahead will be challenging, but progressive Democrats have never been ones to back down. We’ve overcome adversity before, and we will again. The fight for justice, equality, and democracy isn’t a sprint—it’s a marathon. Let’s lace up our shoes, tighten our resolve, and get to work. Progress isn’t canceled; it’s just delayed. Here’s to 2025—a year where our fight defines us and our hope fuels us. Together, we rise.
Robin Hood: A Tale for Our Times
A couple of days ago, I found myself watching Robin Hood on Netflix. About halfway through, I realized my attention had drifted. My mind, it seemed, wasn’t as interested in the film as it was in the striking parallels between this legendary tale and the political landscape we find ourselves in today.
Robin Hood’s story is a classic battle of good versus evil, compassion versus greed. And as I thought about it, I couldn’t help but see Robin and his merry band as a metaphor for the Democrats—fighting for the people, standing up against the injustices of the rich and powerful. Meanwhile, the Sheriff of Nottingham? That cruel, selfish, power-hungry villain? Well, if you’re thinking what I’m thinking, you already know who fits that bill. Yes, Donald Trump.
As these thoughts took root, inspiration struck. I grabbed my pen, let the ideas flow, and turned this modern-day Robin Hood tale into a song. I titled it Robin of the People. It’s a tune that captures the essence of the fight for justice, the drive for equality, and the unwavering determination to uplift those most in need. The band and I poured our hearts into this one, weaving the story’s timeless themes into music and lyrics that resonate with today’s struggles. We can’t wait for you to hear it, and we’re even more excited to hear what you think.
Robin Hood may have been a legend, but the fight he stood for is alive and well—and it’s a fight we’re all in together. Let us know your thoughts on Robin of the People—your feedback means the world to us.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Ukraine: Heroes Helping Heroes
Amid the crackling inferno of California's wildfires, a light of hope shines from an unexpected corner of the world. Two hundred fifty Ukrainian firefighters have arrived to help battle the devastating blazes in the Golden State, offering their skill, courage, and solidarity in our time of need.
This is more than just an act of international goodwill—it’s a powerful reminder that humanity transcends borders. While Ukraine fights its own battles for freedom and survival, its people have not forgotten the meaning of unity and compassion. These brave men and women have traveled thousands of miles to help protect California's people, homes, and natural treasures from the relentless advance of fire.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, your leadership inspires not only your nation but the world. Your commitment to aiding others, even in Ukraine’s darkest hours, exemplifies what true global citizenship looks like. The courage and selflessness of your firefighters mirror the resilience your country has shown in the face of hardship.
To the firefighters from Ukraine: thank you. Thank you for standing shoulder to shoulder with California’s own firefighters, for facing danger head-on, and for showing us that even in a world so often divided, solidarity and courage can prevail.
This partnership between Ukraine and California reminds us that in the battle against disasters—whether natural or man-made—we are stronger together. Let this act of heroism inspire us all to build bridges, lend a hand, and cherish the bonds that unite us as human beings.
To the people of California, remember the faces and stories of these Ukrainian firefighters. They have come to fight not only our fires but also the despair that can creep in when the flames seem insurmountable. Together, we’ll rebuild, recover, and rise—stronger and more connected than ever.
Thank you, Ukraine. Thank you, President Zelenskyy. You’ve reminded us what true leadership and solidarity look like.
Ah, Melania Trump’s hat. A fashion enigma that has haunted me since the moment Donald Trump took the oath of office. While others were debating the crowd size or cringing at the inaugural speech, I couldn’t tear my eyes away from that hat. It was like watching a Hitchcock movie—so unsettling yet impossible to look away.
I’m convinced it wasn’t just a hat; it was a statement, a warning, maybe even a coded message to extraterrestrials. The sharp angles, the dramatic shadow—it was less of an accessory and more of a force field. I kept half-expecting it to start rotating, beam Melania up, and leave us all standing there wondering what we just witnessed.
Naturally, as a songwriter, I couldn’t leave this head-scratcher alone. I composed a song about it. Yes, Melania’s hat inspired me musically. (Art comes from strange places, folks.) The song is attached below, and I’d love your feedback—unless, of course, you’re wearing a hat like hers, in which case I won’t trust you to read the lyrics properly.
The hat wasn’t just fashion; it was a metaphor, a warning sign in felt and fabric. It said, “Don’t get too close. You don’t know me. You never will.” And honestly? It worked. I feel like we’ve been trying to decode Melania’s enigmatic vibe ever since.
Let me know what you think of the song and lyrics. Who knows? Maybe together we can unravel the true meaning behind the most mysterious hat in modern political history. -
Hi, I am Rick Gaspa. I am passionate about issues of social justice and equality. I am a music writer, producer, and singer. I'm also a blogger, and my articles have been published in democratic and progressive publications nationwide. I reside in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Blue Wave Revival began as a passion project spearheaded by a group of dedicated Democrats and music enthusiasts who sought to create a platform for discovering new music with ease and enjoyment. Over time, it has evolved into a vibrant global community of music lovers. Recently, we had the honor of collaborating with the Harris Campaign to compose an uplifting anthem-style song for Kamala Harris’s events, aiming to convey a powerful message. Although I’m not Beyoncé, we invested our hearts into this project, striving for an elegant and impactful outcome. This is the result of our efforts, and we hope it resonates as we intended.
The date is approaching fast and we’re making preparations for our next new song to drop and become released to the public.

The big day may have come and gone, but keep in touch as we’re always up to something new and exciting.
As a 100% disabled Army veteran, I’ve experienced the highs and lows of service, sacrifice, and the promises that come with wearing the uniform. When I wrote Trump's Broken Promises, I poured my heart and soul into every lyric, every note, and every melody. This song is more than just music to me—it’s a story, a reflection, and a rallying cry for all my fellow veterans who know what it’s like to feel let down by those who should stand by us the most.
Most of my music is created, sung, and mastered in my home studio—a space where passion and creativity thrive. But this time, I knew it needed more. This song demanded a level of power and precision that only a professional studio could provide. So, I took a step beyond my usual process to give Trump's Broken Promises the depth and resonance it deserves. This was for my brothers and sisters in arms, for the families who stand behind them, and for every American who believes in the dignity of those who serve.
Trump's Broken Promises is not just a song; it’s a statement. It’s a reminder of the sacrifices made by our service members and the unwavering expectation that their needs and futures are honored, not discarded. I hope it resonates with you as deeply as it does with me.
To my friends, my family, and my fellow veterans—this one’s for you. Together, we’ve faced challenges, and together, we’ll keep fighting for what’s right. I give you Trump's Broken Promises.
With gratitude and solidarity, Rick Gaspa Blue Wave Revival Band
Ever since Trump won the presidency, I’ve received more emails, messages, and comments than I can even begin to count. Many of you have shared deeply personal stories about how you served, how your family members served, and the sacrifices made to protect our democracy. Some of you told me about your dads, brothers, sons, and daughters who have worn the uniform, and others shared the heartbreak of losing loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice, giving their all for this country.
Each and every one of your messages has left a lasting impact on me. Your stories are powerful, emotional, and a testament to the courage and resilience that define the heart of our nation. They’ve inspired me more than words can express, and I felt compelled to do something to honor you.
That’s why I wrote a song for YOU. - I’ve titled it "Stand and Prevail" because it reflects the strength, conviction, and unwavering commitment I’ve seen in the stories you’ve shared.
I hope this song resonates with you, honors your sacrifices, and does justice to the spirit of service and love for this country that you’ve shared with me. Thank you for trusting me with your stories. This song is my way of giving back and standing alongside you in the fight to protect what matters most.
Let me know what you think—your feedback means everything to me.
Thanksgiving: A Battle for Decency
Thanksgiving is meant for joy and connection, a day to set differences aside. But sometimes, the divide is too great for turkey and pie to bridge. This year, my dinner turned into a confrontation I couldn’t avoid.
Why do MAGA family members feel entitled to spew hateful, racist opinions without consequences? My dad, once my role model, has gone so far down the MAGA rabbit hole that every conversation feels hijacked by anger and misinformation. But this year, he crossed a line—making a racist comment about a biracial family member.
I had no choice but to say:
“Dad, this might be the end of our relationship. I won’t tolerate hateful, racist comments anymore.”
His response? Typical MAGA: “I’m not allowed to have an opinion? You’ll write me off over politics?”
Racism isn’t an opinion; it’s a moral failing. This isn’t about politics—it’s about decency. Love doesn’t mean silence, and family doesn’t mean enabling hatred.
In the days after, I channeled the pain into a song for anyone who’s ever chosen truth over “keeping the peace.” This Thanksgiving, I didn’t lose myself—I found the courage to say, “Enough.” Humanity isn’t up for debate.

Today, I want to share something deeply personal—a song I wrote in honor of President Jimmy Carter, who passed away at the remarkable age of 100. As the 39th president of the United States and a Nobel Peace Prize winner, Jimmy Carter’s legacy is one of peace, human rights, and selfless love. His journey, from the peanut fields of Plains, Georgia, to the halls of the White House, is a testament to what compassion and determination can achieve.
President Carter was more than a leader; he was a hero to me and countless others who believe in justice and equality. He showed us that the world is one family and that unity, not division, is the path forward. Whether it was brokering peace at Camp David or swinging a hammer for Habitat for Humanity, Carter’s life was a symphony of service and love.
Writing this song in his memory came naturally as if the words and melody had been waiting for this moment. It’s one of the fastest songs I’ve ever written, and I’m humbled to share it with you. The song, titled “Jimmy’s Light,” reflects on his incredible legacy and the enduring impact he’s had on all of us.
I hope this song serves as a small tribute to the giant that Jimmy Carter was—a true American, a devoted Democrat, and a human being of unparalleled kindness. His light continues to shine through the countless lives he’s touched.
Feel free to share this song with your loved ones. Let it remind us all of what it means to live a life dedicated to others. Rest in peace, President Carter. Your legacy will live on forever.

Together, let’s celebrate his life and carry his torch forward. 🌟 - Rick Gaspa and the Blue Wave Revival Band
Hi, I’m Rick Gaspa.
I’m a music writer, producer, and singer with a deep passion for issues of social justice and equality. As a blogger, my articles have been featured in democratic and progressive publications nationwide, amplifying voices and values that matter. I call Las Vegas, Nevada, home, but my reach and mission go far beyond the city lights.
Our Story: The Blue Wave Revival Band
The Blue Wave Revival Band was born out of a shared vision: to combine the power of music with the urgency of progressive activism. What started as a passion project among dedicated Democrats and music enthusiasts quickly grew into a dynamic movement. Our goal? To craft music that inspires action, fosters connection, and creates a space for music lovers around the globe.
Recently, we partnered with the Harris Campaign to compose an anthem-style song for Kamala Harris’s events—an uplifting tune that carries a powerful message of unity and hope. While we might not have the star power of Beyoncé, we poured our hearts and souls into this project, striving to create something both elegant and impactful.
This is who we are, and this is our voice. We hope our music resonates with you and inspires the change we all want to see.
One of the best and easiest ways to explain why I am a Democrat is to sing about it. Click the play button; I'll explain why. Through the melody, I celebrate the values of equality, inclusivity, and justice that form the foundation of our party. The lyrics resonate with the struggles of everyday people who seek a voice in the political arena. Each verse captures the essence of our commitment to providing healthcare for all, ensuring education is accessible, and protecting the environment for future generations. As the chorus lifts the spirits, it reminds us that together, we can create a society where everyone has a chance to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances.
So join me in this harmonious journey as we embrace the ideals of progress and unity, singing loud and proud about the Democratic vision for a better tomorrow. One of the best and easiest ways to explain why I am a Democrat is to sing about it. Hey friends, I’m excited to share my latest song, "Ride The Waves." It’s an anthem of unity, empowerment, and the unstoppable force of progress. The verses celebrate being part of a growing movement—one that invites everyone to step off the sidelines and take pride in standing together for what matters. The chorus is a rallying cry, urging us to "ride the wave" of change, showcasing the strength we find in unity and the brighter future we’re building as Blue Wave Democrats. This song isn’t just about politics; it’s about community, hope, and using our voices to inspire and create a lasting impact. I hope it motivates you as much as it did me while writing it! 🌊🎶
We came to remind America that we’re veterans, not “suckers and losers.” It seems Trump missed the memo when he insulted the very people who fought for his right to butcher the English language in his Twitter rants. Let’s be clear: We served. We sacrificed. We’ve seen things Trump couldn’t even imagine from the safety of his golden throne.
🎶 A Soulful Call to Action: Introducing Our Latest Song – “Trump 2.0” 🎶
We’re thrilled to share our newest song, “Trump 2.0,” a soulful anthem that speaks to the turbulence and uncertainty of our times. With heartfelt harmonies and raw, emotional lyrics, this piece is more than just music – it’s a reflection of a nation at a crossroads, a message calling for unity and awareness.
When we recorded this track, we wanted every note to echo the gravity of its message. Each verse delves into the challenges we’ve faced, the storm clouds gathering on the horizon, and the need to stay vigilant. The harmonies? They’re a blend of our voices, intentionally layered to create a sense of urgency, hope, and strength.
What makes this song unique?
It’s the emotions we poured into it. Every word and every chord was crafted with purpose. From the soft, haunting introduction to the powerful crescendos of the chorus, we aimed to take you on a journey – one that not only tells a story but also stirs something deep within.
The pre-chorus builds tension, asking questions we all feel in our hearts: Can we survive the chaos and the cries? Will we find light in the darkest hour? And the chorus? It hits hard, a soulful warning that resonates: “Trump 2.0, the thunder’s gonna roar…”
Our inspiration
This song was born from the realities of our political climate. We’ve all felt the weight of recent years – the division, the upheaval, and the uncertainty of what’s to come. But through the power of music, we hope to bring people together to remind everyone that while storms may come, resilience is stronger.
Join us in harmony
We’re proud of how we blended our voices to convey the emotions behind this song. Harmony isn’t just a musical choice here – it’s a metaphor for what we believe our country needs: different voices coming together to create something powerful and unified.
Listen to “Trump 2.0” today. Let it move you, inspire you, and remind you of the strength we all carry to weather the storm and fight for a better future.
The band and I brainstormed, and the idea of singing the lyrics in a Latin style sparked immediate excitement. As someone of Latin descent with roots in Portugal, I feel this is both natural and deeply personal. While I’ve never sung one of my politically democratic songs in a Latin style before, I’m ready to embrace this challenge. I’ve already started crafting the lyrics to a vibrant Latin beat, and I can feel the energy building as the song takes shape.
A Promise to Liz Lockhart : A Song for Teachers
About six months ago, I made a promise. My friend Liz, an incredible teacher with a heart as big as her classroom, inspired me to write a song about teachers. When I first mentioned the idea, she welcomed it with a smile, encouraging me to capture my thoughts in music. At the time, it seemed simple—write a song, sing it, share it. But what I didn’t anticipate was the emotional weight of doing justice to the people who shape lives every single day.
For six months, I wrestled with lyrics, melodies, and meanings. Trial and error became my routine. How do you encapsulate the immeasurable impact of teachers in just a few verses? How do you thank them for the lives they’ve touched, the sacrifices they’ve made, and the dreams they’ve nurtured? I wanted it to be perfect—not just for Liz but for every teacher out there who has ever poured their soul into the classroom.
Last night, after countless revisions and late-night brainstorming sessions, my band and I finally brought the words to life. We put everything into it—the gratitude, the admiration, the stories that teachers like Liz inspire. And as the music filled the room, I felt something shift. It wasn’t just a song anymore; it was a tribute, a love letter to the people who make the world a better place, one student at a time.
Liz, this one’s for you—and for all the teachers out there who give their hearts to their students, who believe in every kid even when the world doesn’t, and who show us what it means to be selfless and strong. I hope you like it. I hope it makes you feel seen, valued, and celebrated.
Here’s to you, Liz—and to every teacher who’s ever made a difference. You’re the unsung heroes of our lives, but maybe now, you’ll have a song.

A Promise to Liz Lockhart : A Song for Teachers
Imagine waking up in a land where the morning news is a monotonous chorus of praise for the Leader, a man who claims to have single-handedly saved the country from imaginary enemies. The airwaves are filled with his image, his voice, his decrees. Every channel, every station, every billboard blares his greatness. The former land of the free has morphed into a stage for one man’s ego trip. Donald Trump
I tried to capture the weight of despair and the promise of hope in uncertain times. This song reflects the turbulence we’ve endured, yet holds tightly to the belief that light can break through even the darkest storm. It paints a picture of a nation grappling with chaos and division, while offering a rallying cry to those who still dream of unity and justice. This song is more than a reflection—it's a reminder of our collective strength and a call to weather the storm together.
A personal anthem for those feeling trapped in today’s chaos, I’m Counting Down the Days reflects exhaustion and frustration while offering hope. With lines like, “Been spinning ‘round in circles, chasing shadows, chasing fights,” it captures a longing for steadier times. The chorus, “Can’t wait for this circus to pack up, disappear,” is a plea for change and a brighter future, inspiring hope amidst the noise.
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to personally invite you to join Blue Wave Democrats, our vibrant new Facebook group. We believe your participation will be instrumental in creating a thriving community.
